What a fun couple! Tiffany and Mitch chose the Claremont Colleges as the location for their engagement photographs, and even though I shoot their quite a bit since it’s right next door to my studio, we found so many great spots around campus that I had never seen before. I love it when a couple can just let loose and get comfortable in front of the camera, and Tiffany and Mitch were no exception. We had a great time and I can’t wait for their wedding this April!

Fate. I’m pretty sure that simple word is what made photographing Nicola and Kent’s wedding at Hunua Falls in New Zealand a reality. A couple from New Zealand, currently living outside of Santiago, Chile, finding me, a wedding photographer from Los Angeles, California. How else can you explain that? It was just meant to be.
From the moment we met, I knew this charming couple and I were going to hit it off, and that this was a wedding I would not soon forget. Nicola and Kent fell in love while traveling the world, some of the stories they told made me want to close my eyes, point to a spot on a map, and just go there. Long story short, their life is that romantic movie that we all wish we were in. I was so happy to be a part of their amazing day.
To Nicola’s parents, Maureen and Malcolm, your hospitality and kindness overwhelmed me, thank you so much for inviting me into your home and showing me the true beauty of New Zealand. I really hope to get back out there soon!

Ellen and Jamie – Seattle Wedding Photography
January 28, 2010A few days before I left for my trip to New Zealand, I was in Seattle for Ellen and Jamie’s wedding, my first one of the new year. Ellen is another good friend from my college days and I was excited to get back to my hometown for the wedding. We were blessed with a beautiful non-rainy winter day in Seattle, which is very rare! We took advantage and went all over downtown for photos, we even got booted from the library.
It was such a fun group and I was happy to be a part of their big day…
What an amazing way to start off the year!

Nothing like cruising around downtown Seattle in a big yellow school bus…

I love shooting at the Pike Place Market, and when you take a group this big into the market, you’re bound to draw some attention. This tourist was filming me take pictures, so I just had to grab a photo of him…

After the market, we headed over to the Seattle Public Library, which is known for its amazing architecture. It also started to get a bit windy…

Love the socks…

This guy did the best AC/DC impression I’ve ever seen, it was spot on…

Here’s something you don’t see at every wedding, the groom taking a keg stand…

Auckland and Waiheke Island – New Zealand Photography
January 26, 2010My last two days spent in New Zealand were spent on the north island, exploring Auckland, the West Coast, and Waiheke Island, a short ferry ride from Auckland on the east coast. These two days of exploring would not have happened if it weren’t for the generosity of the Todd family, the family members of Nicola, the bride of the wedding I photographed at the beginning of this trip. My schedule was simple, fly into Auckland, photograph Nicola and Kent’s wedding, then fly down to Queenstown the day after the wedding to spend 10 days with my brother. Then fly back into Auckland and spend two days in the city before my flight back to the states. I had no plans for those two days. Actually, my plan was to hang at the airport and edit photos. That was before I met so many amazing people at the wedding, including Nicola’s family. Her dad, Malcolm, suggested that I spend a few days with them and they would show me around the north island before I left. They had never met me before the wedding, and here they were welcoming me, some kid from the states, into their home as a friend. I could not be more thankful for the amazing people I meet as a photographer. As I say again and again, I love my job!
I arrived in Auckland pretty early, so we had the whole day to explore. Nicola’s brother and girlfriend, who were in town for the wedding all the way from London, decided it was a good idea to take advantage of the sun and check out a few beaches on the West Coast just outside of Auckland. On the way there we drove through this park, but not just any park. This was One Tree Hill, that’s right, the same One Tree Hill that U2 wrote a song about. Pretty dang cool…

Here’s a view of downtown Auckland from the park…

A view of Piha Beach, famous for its great surfing…

The next morning we woke up early and headed to the harbor in downtown Auckland to catch a ferry to Waiheke Island, a small island on the east coast known for it’s beautiful landscapes and wineries. Malcolm travels the country to check the quality of wool on different farms, so the reason for the trip was to visit a farm on the island while they have their semi-annual sheep shear. Yup, a traditional New Zealand sheep shear, this was going to be interesting. Here’s my very gracious host, Malcolm…

Here’s Malcolm opening the gate to the farm…

There’s are tons of sheep in New Zealand, TONS…

*PLEASE NOTE: No sheep were harmed in the making of these photos. Actually, I think they quite enjoyed the haircut, they all looked pretty refreshed after getting rid of all that wool. Now they’re ready for summertime…
