The road trip is in full swing! I say this sitting in my hotel room in Farmington, New Mexico, and yes, I realize New Mexico was not on the schedule. But what would a road trip be without wandering off the beaten path along the way?

After leaving Breckenridge I made a few stops to visit friends in Boulder and Denver before heading to Durango to prepare for Carrie and Jeremy’s wedding on Saturday. Although they were very quick stops, it was good to see close friends even for just a night. Brittney and I have been friends for over seven years now, and although I don’t get to see her all too often, her and her family have been like my second family. I photographed her sister Bethanne’s wedding last year in Alabama, and I’ll be photographing her cousin Maleigh’s wedding this November down there as well. So I guess you could say that the Wilson family have their own personal photographer!

One thing I was really looking forward to in Denver was to see Brittney’s new business venture. She is an amazing painter and she found a fun and catchy way to share her gift with others. She calls it Canvas and Cocktails, and it was fun to see it in action! The idea is you show up with a bottle of wine, visit with friends, and learn how to create an amazing painting. How cool is that? Makes for a great date night :) And since I was lacking a date for the night, I decided to snap a few pics…

Brittney always has a big southern smile to greet you!

After a long drive through central Colorado I made it to Durango and stopped for a bite to eat before heading to New Mexico for the night. Of course I took a few photos of the cool town…

The road trip has begun! For the next six weeks I will be living out of my car, and it’s going to be a blast. I have so many weddings and families to photograph while on this trip, so as always check back right here to see all the photos!

The first stop on the trip was a quick three day mini-vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado. It’s great to see some real mountains again! It’s been nice to kick back a bit, grab a hike or two, and visit with my good friends Ryan and Jess. Ryan has an amazing outdoor adventure blog that you HAVE to check out if you love anything outdoors. He does a ton of gear reviews that any outdoor enthusiast can benefit from. So check out Explore It!

Along the way up to Colorado I had to make a stop at my old stomping grounds, Cedar City. I visited a few friends I haven’t seen since I worked at the newspaper there, so it was nice to catch up. You may remember the Kyhl family from previous posts on my blog. I have photographed their family several times, and I couldn’t believe how big Jackson has gotten!

Here he is, and he’s not so little any more!

And here is Theresa and Abbey, you guys are awesome! Abbey is also a fellow photographer, go check out her amazing work! You could also consider this photo a pre-maternity preview for Abbey, she’s expecting boy number two in a few months!!

I always loved the southern Utah landscape, I may or may not have been driving and shooting at the same time for this shot :)

This photo session was sooo much fun!! It’s always nice to get the bride and groom a day or two after the wedding for a shoot like this, takes away the stress of the wedding day, not to mention we have all the time in the world to shoot whatever! Chris Onstott pulled double duty on this shoot, also filming me during the shoot for my upcoming promotional video, which will be posted soon…I am VERY excited about it! A big thanks also goes out to Mike, who let us borrow his beautiful classic ride and also to Ben, who let me hang out the side of his Porsche at 50mph for a few shots, and Anna, who let Chris hang out the side of the ‘Stang for his shots…like I’ve said before, having good friends is essential for success.
